Copy of Common Deer X Local Artists with previous selections
2019 This is Vermont Print Series
Win a purchase contract and have your art featured at Common Deer!
(Contracts worth $250 to $5000!)
Common Deer works with over 300 makers, manufacturers, and artists from across the USA and in Vermont. We are passionate about fostering creativity in our community, and finding new ways to make it easier for artists to make a living doing what they love.
Our goal is to help artists spend their time creating art rather than selling art.
To that end, we’re hosting the third annual “This is Vermont” Print Series, newly named after two years as the Vermont by Vermont Artists series. Selected artists will receive purchase contracts for between 25 and 100 ready-to-sell prints. These purchase contracts are valued between $250 and $5000, and can lead to a continued relationship with Common Deer. Artists and designers from around the state are encouraged to submit original art celebrating what you love about Vermont or Burlington.
Potential prompts:
Your favorite place in Vermont? • The color palette of our state? • Vermont Food • The sense of being a Vermonter? • The seasons of Vermont • Lake Champlain
Use one of these prompts or let your imagination run wild!
WHO CAN APPLY? / WHAT KIND OF ART?
All Vermont-based 2D visual artists! Professional artists, students, amateurs, hobbyists, and professional artists are welcome to take part in this program. Graphic designers, illustrators, collage artists, painters, printmakers, photographers, cartographers, etc. - as long as your work can be reproduced as a print, we encourage you to apply! We are excited to see a wide variety of styles!
WHAT IS COMMON DEER LOOKING FOR?
Creativity! Winning artwork will be assessed based on design, retail-ability, exclusivity, medium, packaging, and cost. Please note that successful print costs tend to be in the $20 - $40 range, depending on the medium. **New artworks created specifically for this program will also be given preference, to allow for limited edition work. Please note when applying, if and how you have sold this art print before (i.e. online, artist’s markets, galleries, retail stores). While we do give preference to exclusive artwork, the artist is encouraged to offer direct sales through their own channels.
- Must be artist’s original work
- Final print dimensions should not exceed 24” x 36”
- Prints must retail for under $100
- Production, packaging and all preparation will be the responsibility of the artist and should be included in the wholesale cost
WHAT CAN I WIN?
Chosen artists will receive purchase contracts for between 25 and 100 ready-to-sell prints (valued between $250 and $5000). This is not a commission sale - Common Deer will purchase the finished & individually packaged prints and handle retail sales and promotion of the print. Yes, this means cash-money in hand for you before the prints are sold. Selected artists will also have additional opportunities for paid licensing of artwork, events, commissioned work, and RE-ORDERS!
