Our New Website Is Live!
After months of planning, building, rewriting, rethinking, and more late nights than we care to admit, our brand new CommonDeer.com is officially live. Hitting “publish” on a new website might look like a quick moment from the outside, but anyone who has ever built one knows it is a journey. A long one. With many tabs open. Honestly, businesses get new websites all the time... and really does anyone really care? But we think you should. We have not had the time for a refresh in the last 4 years(!).
This project has been a true labor of love. We wanted a site that actually feels like our store: warm, welcoming, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in celebrating American made goods. We wanted to better highlight the incredible makers and vendors we partner with, to share their stories more clearly, and to create a space that mirrors what we value most inside our brick and mortar shop. We also really wanted to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for without needing a map, a compass, and three hints.
So here we are, and we are excited. Really excited.
Funky timing for a new website in retail
Designing a website while running a small business is a bit like renovating your kitchen while still trying to make dinner in it. Building a retail website in the middle of holiday season prep is like renovating it when you have 30 people arriving for Thanksgiving dinner in a few hours. The timing could have been better, but once we realized a new site was necessary, it was hard to unring that bell.
As our business navigates these strange economic times, we know the online experience matters more than ever. We want it to be better for you, more reflective of who we are, and more supportive of the makers whose work we are lucky to carry.
We need your eyes too...
New websites are a lot like new houses. No matter how many times you walk through them, you always find one door that does not quite close right. So if you are browsing the new site and catch something that seems off, we would truly appreciate your help in pointing it out.
If you find buttons that do not go anywhere, links that land on the wrong page, collections that feel out of place, pages that load strangely, unfinished content, or anything that feels amiss, please let us know at info@commondeer.com. If you can include a link to the exact page, that helps us fix it even faster.
Your feedback will help us smooth out the rough edges and make this site the best it can be.
Thank You
We hope this new version of CommonDeer.com brings you a little closer to what we love most about our small business: the stories, the makers, the creativity, and the community.
Take a look around, explore, and let us know what you think. We are so glad you are here.
