About the Artist: Stephen Smith loves maps. He was bitten by the cartography bug in 2007 when he was asked to make an 8 foot wide map to hang in a conference room. He loved the challenge of balancing information density, legibility, and aesthetics to communicate the message of the map. Since then, Stephen has had his maps published in several books and has won several national awards. He’s a father of two living in the Old North End in Burlington and he continues to innovate cartographically in his spare time. He’s also a coffee connoisseur who knows too much about Game of Thrones and listens to too many podcasts. Inspired by geography and typography, he decided to put those two together for this map design.
Stephen is a winner of Common Deer's 2020 call to artists for the "This is Vermont" print series, an anual art competion held by CD to celebrate Vermont based artists and our community.
